  • History
    Jodo Shu ministry in the Continental United States started by the late Rev. Reikai Nozaki in 1936. After the war ended, the ministry was resumed with a sanctuary established at 2003 Jefferson Blvd. Due to the deterioration of the temple neighborhood, the temple was relocated to 442 E. 3rd Street with the support of Jodo Shu-affiliated Bukkyo University and the dedication ceremony was held in June, 1992. In commemoration of the 800th memorial anniversary of Honen Shonin, Goju Soden Retreat took place for the first time in the Continental United States in winter 2010 and the 800th Memorial Anniversary Service was held in June 2012. The temple celebrated its 80th anniversary in June, 2017.
